“Education
is the only business still debating the usefulness
of technology. Schools remain unchanged for the
most part, despite numerous reforms and increased
investments in computers and networks.” Rod
Paige, U.S. Secretary of Education
Because many
people agree with the above quote, there are several
movements at the national, state, and local levels
to correct this situation. The term
"standards" can be used for accountability
and goals, but its first meaning must focus on
"standardization" so schools have
continuity. Continuity is essential for
transfer students, state and national assessment,
post-secondary expectations, and instructor
training. The most important benefit of
standardization is to prevent having to
"re-invent the wheel" in every
school.
This page has
links to information technology standards at both
the national and state levels. Many states
have adopted the National Educational Technology
Standards (NETS) as their state standards.
It is recommended to view the national links first,
then view your individual state's information
afterward. Some
links use pdf (Adobe Reader) documents. Download
